Testosterone Propionate Injection Solution
Testonex-P is a sterile intramuscular injection containing testosterone propionate formulated in an ethyl oleate–based oil solution. Ethyl oleate is commonly used in injectable pharmaceutical formulations due to its favorable solubility profile and suitability for intramuscular administration.
Formulation Characteristics
- Ethyl oleate–based oil carrier
- Clear and stable injectable solution
- Designed for intramuscular administration
- Formulated for consistent delivery of testosterone propionate
Indications
- Testosterone replacement therapy in male hypogonadism confirmed by clinical and laboratory findings
- Supportive hormone therapy for female-to-male transgender patients under medical supervision
Pharmacological Overview
Testosterone propionate is a short-acting ester of testosterone. Following intramuscular administration, the ester is hydrolyzed to release free testosterone. Testosterone is primarily metabolized in the liver and excreted mainly in the urine as conjugated metabolites.
Contraindications
- Use in women, including pregnancy and breastfeeding
- Known or suspected carcinoma of the prostate or male breast
- Hypersensitivity to testosterone or any component of the formulation
- Pediatric use
Warning: This product contains benzyl alcohol. Benzyl alcohol is contraindicated in neonates and premature infants.
Special Precautions
- Androgens may affect glucose tolerance; monitoring is recommended in diabetic patients
- Endogenous testosterone production may be suppressed during exogenous androgen therapy
- Serum testosterone levels should be monitored during treatment
- Use only under medical supervision
Additional Storage and Handling Information
Oil-based injectable solutions may exhibit increased viscosity or changes in clarity when exposed to lower temperatures. At temperatures below the recommended storage range, partial crystallization or cloudiness may occur.
If cloudiness or crystallization is observed, the ampoule may be gently warmed to body temperature prior to use. This can be achieved by holding the ampoule in the palm of the hand for several minutes or allowing it to equilibrate at room temperature until the solution becomes clear and homogeneous.
Do not overheat. Do not use open flame, boiling water, or microwave heating. Visually inspect the solution before use. Do not use if particulate matter persists or if clarity is not restored after gentle warming.
Proper temperature conditioning before injection may help reduce injection resistance and improve injectability of ethyl oleate–based formulations.
